I am a long-time library groupie, originally from Auckland, New Zealand/Aotearoa.
I work at Birkbeck Library, University of London where for half the week I share the Access Support co-ordinator job, supporting students with disabilities and dyslexia. The the other half of the week I work in the e-services team, maintaining our electronic resources and digitising stuff.
In my previous life, I spent 7 years working at the amazing Tupu Youth Library in Auckland. We got to pull out all the stops to lure kids into the library, including purchasing the latest technology and using the library to host hip hop nights and graffiti art workshops. At the same time I also opened a comic book shop called Cherry Bomb Comics with my friend which we ran until I until I moved to London in 2008.
When I caught myself desperately wanting to put my girlfriend’s vast punk record collection in order I realised I was definitely ready for Library school. It’s been a long time coming.
